Responding Doctor

Dr Eimhear Quinn

Eimhear qualified as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine from the University of Liverpool and currently works in Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre and as a Pre-hospital Care Doctor for North West Air Ambulance Charity. Eimhear is proud to be the only Irish team member so far.

Eimhear lives in the Salford area responds locally as well as on the team car.

Simon Carley

Responding Doctor

Dr Simon Carley

He works at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children’s hospitals where he is an active Trauma Team Leader and Major Trauma Consultant.

Simon brings decades of experience in research and education to the team. Amongst his many roles, he is visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is regularly invited to conferences across the globe to teach resuscitation excellence.

Critical Care Paramedic & Equipment Officer

Adam Wager

Adam is a Critical Care Paramedic for the North West Air Ambulance Charity. Adam has a wealth of experience in the pre-hospital setting, including 14 years in the private events sector and 8 years as a paramedic, 3 of which have been spent on the air ambulance. Adam operates his own medical business and holds a teaching qualification. In his spare time, he supports a local lowland rescue team and responds to emergency calls on our behalf.

Responding Doctor

Dr Halden Hutchinson-Bazely

Halden, known as Hutch, is a volunteer pre hospital emergency medicine doctor at NWPCCC. He is also an air ambulance doctor at East Anglian Air Ambulance, where he is a clinical supervisor and a faculty member within their PHEM Academy, specialising in endovascular resuscitation and cardiac arrest.

He has been active in PHEM since 2007. NWPCCC is his 3rd voluntary PHEM organisation, having also volunteered for EMICS and LIVES in the past, whilst working across the country as part of the Royal Air Force.

In hospital, he works as an Intensive Care doctor.

Senior Paramedic & Treasurer

Charlotte Hearn

Charlotte is a Senior Paramedic with North West Ambulance Service and qualified from Liverpool John Moores University 5 years ago. She has a keen interest in advanced practice and in critical care and is currently studying a master’s in this subject at Warwick Medical School.

Dr Mike Hughes

Mike qualified from Liverpool Medical School in 2010 and completed Higher Surgical Training in the North West. Mike is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Upper Limb & Major Trauma surgery, and a MERIT Doctor with NWAS. In addition to his normal day job Mike keeps his airway skills up by frequently swapping seats and working a list as an Anaesthetic SHO, much to the confusion of new starting staff!

Mike was born and bred in the Northwich area and works in Liverpool. Outside of work he is active with Cheshire Search & Rescue Team and attends frequent Search & Rescue and Mountain Rescue callouts, as well as overseeing the team medical training. When he gets the chance, he is a keen climber and certified petrolhead who can usually be found elbow-deep in anything mechanical, from sports bikes to tractors! Mike is very proud of his Class 1 HGV licence.

Mike is married with 3 young children and responds regularly around Northwich/Mid-Cheshire. Mike lives in our busiest area and attends an average of 1-2 incidents per week.

Martin Eccles

Trainee Responder

Martin Eccles

Martin is one of our Nurse team member and has been qualified as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years.

The majority of his career being within Accident & Emergency / resuscitation / education environments or a combination of all three.

Martin is currently employed as a full-time University Lecturer in Nursing.

An experienced Registered Nurse, Clinician, Lecturer and Instructor who has had extensive experience and a specialist interest in resuscitation / pre-hospital care being previously involved in medical rescue in addition to former roles as medical lead to Mountain Rescue / Search & Rescue and Water Rescue Teams.

Experience has also been gained whilst working as a pre-hospital care nurse / medic in night clubs / sporting events and also as an Ambulance Technician.

Martin is also a ‘Practitioner’ Member of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care – The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in addition to being a nurse representative on their Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Advisory Board.

Numerous qualifications have been gained over the years which include having ALS / GIC / PHTLS Instructor status.

Martin enjoys the outdoors and has been an expedition medic in the Arctic Circle and has achieved FRGS and FAWM status.

Critical Care Paramedic

John Carrie

John is a Critical Care Paramedic for the North West Air Ambulance Charity and has been a driving force behind Paramedic responding for CSIBASICS before we became NWPCCC. John started with the charity back in 2008 and has continued to push our development.

He has a wealth of pre-hospital experience which he has gained from his background in both Mountain Rescue and his time overseas with the military. John comes from an instructional background, teaching on Paramedic courses as well as being an instructor and course director for the Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course.

He holds the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care from the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care and is an active examiner for the exam in Edinburgh.

Dr Chris Marsh

Chris is a Specialty Registrar in Anaesthesia. He has experience in transfer and retrieval medicine, having worked as a flight doctor for an air ambulance service in the South of England.

He holds the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care from the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care, and is an Instructor for Advanced Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support courses. Chris is a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators and has an interest in the role of human factors and non-technical skills in resuscitation.

Chris has had long-standing involvement with the British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS), having previously served as Chair of BASICS Junior. He was awarded the BASICS Award in 2016 for outstanding service to the Association.

Dr Jon Taylor

Jon graduated from Liverpool Medical School in 2010. After completing his foundation training he went on to train as an anaesthetist.

In 2015, Jon completed a year-long fellowship in simulation and medical education, with a focus on human factors and non-technical skills.

He has been a member of Cheshire Search and Rescue since 2016 and helps to coordinate their medical training. He is an instructor for Advanced Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support and has also instructed and examined other Mountain Rescue and anaesthetic courses. He is a regular motorsports medic at Oulton Park and Trac Môn in Anglesey.

Advanced Paramedic Practitioner

Martin Rolls

Martin is an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner with the North West Ambulance Service, and has over 20 years pre-hospital experience. Along the way, he has done a bit of teaching, spoken at conferences, and gained his MSc in Advanced Practice. Outside interests include spending time with his wife and three children, walking, and food.

Nurse & Fundraising Lead

Clare is our Fundraising Lead. As an Emergency Department Nurse by background, Clare now works for the North West Ambulance Service as an Advanced Practitioner in Urgent and Emergency Care (Nurse), splitting her time between working in the Urgent Care Hub and responding as a solo responder.

Having graduated from medical school at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester, Scott has gone on to complete training in emergency medicine and pre-hospital emergency medicine.

He works as a consultant in Salford Royal Emergency Department. He also works as a helicopter emergency medical services doctor for the North West Air Ambulance. Another role involves being a senior medical advisor for North West Ambulance Service.

He lives in Lymm and responds locally as and when family life allows!

Support Responder

Mark

Mark recently joined the NWPCCC team as a support responder, providing emergency advanced driving to the medics within the team

Not from a medical background, but with extensive experience at a senior level within the emergency services arena, Mark and his family have supported the charity with some interesting fundraising challenges, which then developed and progressed into Mark giving up his time to help out more directly, clocking up the miles all across the North West!

Mark said, “I have firsthand experience of the vital work the team does, which without doubt saves lives by bringing advanced skills and equipment to the roadside. I’m delighted to be able to play my small part in ensuring this work continues.”
